Character Descriptions
Barley (Barl) Wistrom – Widow and
now the object of The Shadow Game. She still hovers around
in spirit form. Character about 62 years old. Loves the game
and is really quite spry with a quick wit. Fun loving, full
of life.
It was Barl’s belief that memories are shadows in the
mind. Those shadows live a life of their own, often buried
deep in the subconscious. But shadows also have meaning, which
gives them value. So, memories have value and she is going
to put a price on those memories, those shadows.
Timothy Grimes - Estate attorney and the
one who must oversee the game. He’s amused by the whole
thing and not really in favor of it but is obligated to carry
out Barl’s instructions. As the game progresses he gets
impatient with the personalities involved.
He is also tempted into a liaison with Sissy, Barl’s
daughter.
The process is being overseen by the Trustees of Barl’s
estate so Timothy must comply with all the wishes of her will.
Any variations in her directions and Timothy will not get
his administrative fee.
Five game participants:
Billy Bo Franklin – Nephew. Parents
named him Billy Beau but he changed it to Billy Bo for the
Lord of the Rings character. Lord of the Rings and Star Wars
fanatic. Knows the trilogy inside and out. Believes the Force
will be with him. Attends Star Wars conventions as Darth Vader.
Has had trouble finding his niche in life so translates that
to the fantasy world. Lives much of his life according to
the fantasy dictates of his heroes. He is a newspaper artist,
creating drawings for the paper—caricatures, etc.
Billy Bo is not very worldly. He is smart enough but does
not have a lot of common sense. He is easily swayed.
Monte Spinner – Stepson. He is a radio
announcer. 30ish years old. Always wanted to do play-by-play
baseball. Barl enjoyed him. Thinks he can sing. He is a bit
arrogant and conceited. Is a fairly shallow character. Not
a lot of substance to him.
Marie L’Amour - Marie = Meli [may
lee] caregiver in her 30s. Cared for Barl the last five years
of Barl’s life. She was a kind and caring nurse rediscovering
her Native American roots. Respecting the family is important
to her. She is the subject of suspicion surrounding Barl’s
death. Her Cherokee heritage comes from her Grandmother, a
full blood Cherokee. Meli speaks to her Grandmother via the
spirit world from time to time, even though her Grandmother
is still alive. She possesses the calm of Cherokee women.
Carl Wayne Ryan – Nephew. Redneck through
and through. He is an avid hunter. He likes his backwoods
life style. He’s at the game out of courtesy to Barl
but his competitive spirit makes him play to win. You don’t
slack off in anything you do. He enjoys the game a lot. It’s
a great sport to him. He shows up wearing camouflage and headband.
Likes to stir things up.
Sissy Travis – daughter, divorced,
in her 30’s. Has not really been estranged but had not
kept in contact with her mother. She feels the entire estate
should go to her and her two children. Children were both
born before Sissy turned twenty. Thinks she is better than
everyone there. Quite self-centered. Doesn’t hide her
resentment of Meli. Feels like Meli intruded on her relationship
with Barl, even though there was no relationship and hadn’t
been for many years.
